The Academic Advisory Council strives to provide a platform for collaborative learning. This student-centered academic platform is designed to assist students who are looking to improve their academic credentials by providing volunteer assistance from local high school and eighth-grade students. The Academic Advisory Council is an independent program formed in collaboration with The Sevier County School Board of Education, as well as faculty and onsite teaching staff from local schools. Founded by sisters Alyssa Champagne and Kelly Champagne, two students from Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, this no-cost, peer-to-peer program is designed with several goals in mind: Our tutors are given the chance to volunteer, develop communication skills, and share with others the knowledge and experiences they possess to assist those students with whom they work. Our tutees will receive instruction based not on lecture-style teaching, but one-on-one study strategies and interactive learning designed to build a student’s self-confidence and academic independence.
